My Boy is a Simp (But I'm Staying for the Mystery)
Welp, I thought the description sounded nice and decided to give it a try, only to find that my suspicions in terms of plot were correct. But as for the rest... there's something to be said. If you're going to read this because you tend to root for underdogs, this is a tough one. Dongtae is no perfect character—not even a 'common sense' character, if I'm being honest.
So, I would say: stay for the plot and cross your fingers he gets that much-needed character development in the next seasons, because my boy is a simp, and a dumb one at that. I can't blame him too much because his life hasn't exactly been a fairytale, but he sure gave me headaches with his decisions... or lack thereof. At this point, the mystery of it all is carrying the story for me and, hopefully, we can get some well-executed answers.
